Troubleshooting
Fixes for the problems people hit most often.
selltraces: command not found
The binary is at ~/.selltraces/bin/selltraces. Your current shell started before the installer edited your PATH.
- Open a new terminal, or run
source ~/.zshenv(zsh) orsource ~/.bashrc(bash). - In a coding agent, call the full path
~/.selltraces/bin/selltraces, or restart the agent session. - On Windows, open a new PowerShell window.
The installer says my platform is not supported
Builds exist for macOS (Apple silicon and Intel), Linux x64 and ARM64 with glibc, and Windows x64. Alpine and other musl-based Linux distributions are not supported yet.
The download returns 503
Releases are published to https://selltraces.ai/cli/latest/<target>.zip. A 503 means no release is published for that target yet, or the release store is unreachable. Wait a few minutes and try again. The response body says which.
The browser did not open during login
Run selltraces login --no-browser and open the printed link yourself. On a remote machine over SSH, open the link on your laptop. The code works from any device.
auth_failed or auth_required
Your token expired or was revoked. Run:
selltraces login --forcenot_eligible
Run selltraces eligibility. It prints the reason and a link to fix it. A new contributor terms version requires accepting again.
confirmation_required
You ran upload in a non-interactive shell. Run it in a terminal, or pass both --confirm-policy and --confirm-upload once you have reviewed the dry run.
A source shows zero sessions
- The agent may store sessions somewhere else on your system. Check Sources for the expected path.
- Claude Code removes old sessions after a retention period. Only sessions still on disk can be read.
- Cursor parsing is best effort. Run with
--verboseto see why sessions were skipped.
Uploads stop partway
Run selltraces upload again. Finished traces are skipped and unfinished ones resume. If it keeps failing with upload_incomplete, run with --verbose and send the error code, never the trace content, to hi@selltraces.ai.
Still stuck
Email hi@selltraces.ai with your CLI version (selltraces --version), your OS, the command you ran and the error code. Do not include session content or tokens.
