Privacy Policy
Effective October 22, 2026. Questions: hi@selltraces.ai
This Privacy Policy explains how {{LEGAL_ENTITY}} ("Sell Traces", "we", "us") handles personal information when you use selltraces.ai, dashboard.selltraces.ai, our API and the selltraces CLI (the "Service").
The short version
- The CLI reads your agent sessions on your machine. Nothing from them leaves your device until you approve an upload.
- We collect account, contact, eligibility and payout information so you can contribute and get paid.
- Uploaded traces are redacted twice and licensed to AI developers. Buyers do not receive your name, email or account details.
- You can exclude unsold traces at any time, and ask us to access, correct or delete your information.
Information we collect
Information you give us
- Account: name, email address and profile image from your sign-in provider.
- Contact: phone number or social handle if you add them, and whether we may contact you.
- Eligibility: country of residence and your confirmation of US residency, and which terms version you accepted and when.
- Payout and tax: handled mostly by our payout provider. We keep a reference to your payout account and the tax details we must keep by law.
- Lab inquiries: if you fill in our lab form, your name, work email, company, intended use and volume.
- Communications: messages you send us.
Traces you upload
Traces contain your conversations with coding agents, the agents' replies, tool calls and their results, plus metadata such as source agent, models, timestamps, turn counts, a project label you can see, a one-way hash of the project path, and redaction counts. The CLI removes known secrets and personal information before upload, and we redact again on our servers. Redaction is imperfect, so traces may still contain personal information.
What stays on your device
Your local configuration, including approved and private projects and your blocked terms, stays in ~/.selltraces on your machine. Listing sources reads file metadata only. Dry runs process session content locally and do not send it to us. Your login token is stored locally with restricted file permissions.
Information collected automatically
- Request data: IP address, user agent, timestamps and the pages or endpoints used. We derive your country from your IP address to check upload eligibility.
- CLI requests: the CLI version and platform when it calls our API.
- Cookies: a session cookie on the dashboard to keep you signed in, a theme preference stored in your browser, and an
st_refcookie that records a referral code when you arrive from a creator's link. We do not use third-party advertising cookies.
How we use information
- To provide the Service: authenticate you, check eligibility, receive, review and list traces, and package datasets.
- To pay you: calculate revenue share, process payouts and meet tax obligations.
- To credit referrals to the creator who referred you.
- To communicate with you about your account, sales, payouts and changes to our terms.
- To secure the Service, prevent fraud and enforce our terms.
- To improve the Service, including the CLI's redaction, using aggregated and de-identified data where we can.
- To comply with law.
How we share information
- AI developers who license datasets receive scrubbed traces and dataset level metadata under contracts that forbid re-identification. They do not receive your name, email or account identifiers.
- Service providers that host and run the Service for us, such as cloud hosting, databases, object storage, authentication, email and payout providers. They may use the information only to provide services to us.
- Referral partners learn that a referral converted and, if you agree, aggregate earnings needed to pay them. They do not receive your traces.
- Legal and safety: when required by law, or to protect rights, safety or the Service.
- Business transfers: in a merger, acquisition or sale of assets, subject to this policy.
We do not sell your account or contact information. Licensing traces is the purpose of the Service. Some state laws may treat licensing a trace that still contains personal information as a "sale" or "sharing". You can stop this for unsold traces at any time by excluding them or closing your account.
Retention
- Account information: while your account is open, and up to 90 days after closure.
- Unsold traces: until you exclude them or close your account, then deleted within 30 days.
- Sold traces: we keep a record of which traces were in each sale, and the trace content needed to support that buyer's license.
- Payout and tax records: as long as tax and accounting law requires, usually seven years.
- Server logs: up to 90 days, unless needed to investigate abuse.
Security
We use TLS in transit, encryption at rest provided by our infrastructure providers, private storage for trace content, and limited staff access. No system is perfectly secure. See Security and privacy for details and what we have not done yet.
Your choices and rights
- Exclude unsold traces, change project settings and remove blocked terms at any time.
- Opt out of marketing email using the link in any message. Service messages will continue while your account is open.
- Depending on your state, including California, Colorado, Connecticut, Virginia and others, you may have the right to know, access, correct, delete and port your personal information, and to opt out of sales, sharing and targeted advertising.
To make a request, email hi@selltraces.ai from your account email address. We will verify your request and respond within the time the law requires, usually 45 days. You may use an authorized agent, and you may appeal a decision by replying to our response. We will not discriminate against you for using these rights.
Children
The Service is not for anyone under 18. We do not knowingly collect information from children. If you think a child has used the Service, contact us and we will delete the information.
Where we process data
We process information in the United States.
Changes
We will post changes here with a new effective date, and notify you of material changes by email or in the Service.
